Creon 10000 Minimicrospheres pancreatin 150 mg (corresponding to lipase 10,000 IU, amylase 8,000 IU, protease 600 IU). Creon 40000 Minimicrospheres pancreatin 400 mg (corresponding to lipase 40,000 IU, amylase 25,000 IU, protease 1,600 IU)
Indications/Uses
Pancreatic exocrine insufficiency (PEI) in paed & adults often associated w/ cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic surgery & cancer, gastrectomy, GI bypass surgery (eg, Billroth II gastroenterostomy), ductal obstruction of pancreas or common bile duct (eg, from neoplasm), Shwachman-Diamond syndrome, status after an attack of acute pancreatitis & initiation of enteral or oral feeding. Creon 10000: Improvement of digestion & relief of maldigestion symptoms after consumption of fatty meal eg, sensation of heaviness, bloating, abdominal distension & pain/cramping, &/or diarrhoea.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Childn >4 yr Initially 500 lipase IU/kg/meal, <4 yr Initially 1,000 lipase IU/kg/meal. Max: 10,000 lipase IU/kg/day or 4,000 lipase IU/g fat intake. Other conditions associated w/ exocrine pancreatic insufficiency 25,000-80,000 lipase IU/meal & half dose for snacks. Creon 10000 Improvement of digestion & relief of maldigestion symptoms after consumption of fatty meal 1-2 cap/meal.
Administration
Should be taken with food: Take during or immediately after meals. Swallow whole w/ sufficient amount of fluid, do not chew/crush. For patients w/ swallowing difficulty, cap may be carefully opened & contents may be added to an acidic soft food (eg, applesauce/yogurt) or liqd (eg, apple/orange/pineapple). Consume mixt immediately.
Special Precautions
Assess unusual or changes in abdominal symptoms to exclude possibility of fibrosing colonopathy, especially if taking >10,000 lipase IU/kg/day. Pregnancy.
Adverse Reactions
Abdominal pain. Nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal distention, diarrhea.
